SENATE CANDIDATE JEFF BEATTY OFFERS CHALLENGER ASSISTANCE IN CONGRESSIONAL RACE
Republican Town Committees say Jim Ogonowski is stronger candidate in race against Tsongas in 5th Congressional District

Boston – Jeff Beatty, a candidate for US Senate in Massachusetts, is calling on his Republican challenger to run for Congress this fall against Niki Tsongas, a move that would free the Republican Party to defeat John Kerry this November.  At a weekend meeting of the Middlesex County Republican Club, Beatty echoed the requests of voters and several Republican Town Committees asking Jim Ogonowski to abandon his run for Senate and take up the race against Ms. Tsongas for the 5th Congressional District.

“This crucial election year, we have a unique opportunity to reinvigorate the Republican Party in Massachusetts and defeat John Kerry,” said Jeff Beatty, a former Delta Force officer and founder of TotalSecurity.US, a homeland security advisory firm. “Jim has a choice – divide this Party and the Commonwealth, or help us add two strong Republican voices to the Massachusetts Congressional delegation.”

Beatty has a strong support base and has offered to help his challenger gather signatures if he decides to pursue the congressional race. As evidence mounts that Beatty has the best chance to defeat John Kerry, voters around the state are coming out in support of Beatty’s plan:

Recently filed FEC reports show that Jeff Beatty has raised nearly $1 million from more than 30,000 individual contributors.  That is three times more than his Republican challenger who raised $307,000 from only 225 donors. Beatty credits his relevant experience, credentials and broad-based strength with voters for this strong showing from such a large donor base.
A Zogby International poll conducted early in this campaign showed that a candidate with Jeff Beatty’s relevant experience runs a stronger campaign against John Kerry.
Republican Town Committees in Acton and Shirley have formally called on the Republican challenger to abandon his run for Senate and focus on the 5th District Congressional race against Niki Tsongas.

“We believe that in the interest of a stronger, not a weaker Republican Party, Jeff Beatty is clearly our Senate candidate with a real chance to defeat John Kerry,” said Kendra Dumont, Chair of the Shirley Republican Town Committee. “Jim should run for the seat held by freshman Congresswoman Niki Tsongas.  There, he will get a boost to defeat Tsongas from strong McCain and Beatty campaigns and would give the MASS GOP a good shot at two wins.”

Summing up, Beatty said, “People in Massachusetts are tired of John Kerry and his part time leadership.  They want to see a strong candidate, but more importantly, strong leadership to defeat him in November.  Jim can show this leadership by moving aside and allowing the Republican Party to unite in this fight.”
